Also she's still having a moment sorting out the whole kissing thing, because while she's not per se hung up on it, it sort of came out of left field for her. He's not entirely outside of her strike zone, which gave her a little bit of pause in combination with it actually being like—good.
SHRIKE ON GLACIES: I'm not sure they've ever met but she'd probably like her.
PALOMA ON JOHN: He's like a fun puzzle box that keeps changing to try and keep from being solved! Exciting! Like a piñata full of secrets and insights! John of course wants to be left alone, but while not agreeing with them at all she's very interested in the ideals he lives by and why he does the things he does.
Of course, she thinks he could be doing better for himself and the people around him with what he has going on, but she also now has enough of a read on him to know that he hates being told that. She is however trying to figure out how to figure out what the dealio between him and Absinthe is since she's pretty sure he's the one Amaranth referenced on LiliS who has a problem with Absinthe and Absinthe doesn't talk about fucking anything and neither does John.
PALOMA ON GLACIES: Paloma hasn't talked to her a huge amount but is already getting the measure of her as someone who's definitely got a good head on her shoulders as far as social and diplomatic finagling, which marks her as interesting and either a worthy ally or adversary. Also she was going to aggressively flirt with her more except I ran out of time, which was because a) she's pretty, why not! and also b) she was trying to check off someone from pep to dunk on Intensity.
But anyway she also seems like a good co-conspirator in finding ways to give the BARiTONES young'uns emotional enrichment time, which is extremely valuable, actually.

For Shrike I have a sort of memory story arc planned out that, this year, she gets to find out how her life got ultraruined! Basically, it's the saga of "how Kestrel Strikes at Twilight became a good commander, but ultimately not good enough" followed by "oh, okay, so the Abyssal Exaltation is a thing." With a few other things peppered in so it's not just linear, but that's going on.
Paloma is accumulating some irons in the fire of various types; I'd like to get the opportunity to bring her, uh, not-really-a-secret extra imeeji job onscreen and loop in some of the other audition players, but beyond that is something i'm still working out what would be fun to do. Also, she's having a wild time experiencing some emotions these days because BARiTONES is moe and sometimes you shut off your ability to experience trust when you're on six-dimensional chess levels of skulduggery and when it comes back it's a weird experience, and I'm excited to continue that arc because I think there's some cool stuff to dig into there.

Honestly she has a similar feeling about him as she and Yvette often do for each other where it's like "oh thank fuck I don't have to explain all this shit, we're all shady motherfuckers here," and also sort of has a secret emotion about being dropped into a family united by a specific Purpose and being the rebellious one. #relatable! in a bad way!
PALOMA ON TAISHO: The Taisho/BARiTONES enmity means that she's always looking for an angle with Taisho, just for professional reasons, but she does genuinely like a lot of them. She's only fucked around in Shu's dreams, but finds him interesting; she also genuinely likes Fox despite trying to stay out of the Eichi/Fox kidnapping drama at first because she likes his artistic philosophy which stands in opposition to her artist ex-wife's philosophy. Kaguya she doesn't, er, actually quite respect, but she sees she's got some potential in leadership if she develops it.
Overall she thinks it'd be very interesting if they were able to settle the Taisho/BARiTONES feud—not that she's holding out hope for it, but the way things are evolving there now is interesting, especially with Taisho's more pragmatic/murderous newbies.

PALOMA ON COBALT: He's like, a nice fellow, and ALSO she immediately becomes fond of people who have a bad history with imperialism and/or conquering armies; she absolutely wants to talk to him more. She also just... has a sort of admiration for people who can go through horrible things and come out trying to make the best of it and not gone completely cynical. Like she says, she's an optimist at heart.

I am trying to become a better RPer! Having played with me, do you have any suggestions or advice for things that I could do to level up my game?
I know we've already talked about this kind of thing in the general sense, but I wonder what things I, specifically, could stand to keep in mind more when I play. (IF YOU FEEL LIKE SHARING)
Thank you!

honestly I was surprised that you're so new to this RP format, because you do a great job! I feel like you do a really good job playing a character that can both be lighthearted and very serious; tbh the only you-specific advice i could think of is that I want to be able to touch more backstory/deep emotional stuff so if you're interested in bringing that onscreen more there's definitely a market! /presses face against glass
(although also i know The Struggle of writing memories as an oc player, so, also, solidarity)

It's true, I hella hate writing memories! Because!! Writing is hard and I don't like it!!! But I also want him to have memories so I guess I gotta, WHINE. Regardless, I will see what I can do about bringing the secret backstory stuff more forward when I can. I really appreciate the advice! Thank you so much!!! <3333

it's funny because last time i did a question meme for her like, at the beginning of the summer, I was starting to characterize her relationship toward him as more sibling-like, but then a bunch of little things collected into "oh. oh that's actually a romance feeling" and I'm delighted by where it's gone
she's just constantly beset by emotions whenever she's reminded that it's the soft squishy part of him that's particularly into her or when he says he wants to be able to protect her, because she's sort of... gender non-conforming by her own society's standards and it's not a romantic sentiment she's used to hearing but it turns out it's one she really likes.
...though she a little bit is trying to get better at doing adventurous things because she at least wants the option of being able to go along on all shenanigans, ha ha.

She would never say it in front of the unit at large but she does miss the dynamic of Summer 2019 Avante, though, and is really hoping she sees them again someday, somehow, especially since the family feelings finally got to even Shishiou. She does think Kestrel is a cute and good girl though and figures the best she can do is keep trying to make avante a welcoming place for all the misfits that get dropped there.

SHRIKE ON RUBY: they've met like once when they had to scoop a cat together during fourth wall but Shrike is both a little intimidated and thinks Ruby is very nice, in their own way.

N.B. I don't know much about H/Crow or Xion obviously but as far as the rest—
SHRIKE ON CARDIGAN: Shrike still has a big stupid crush on Cardigan and is both terrified and flattered that Cardigan is trying to pass the torch to her and Griffin. I think after Capitalism Game she stopped being quite so intimidated by them, though, because it was one of the first times that they talked about things one on one like equals.
Also, good hugs.
SHRIKE ON GOLD: Gold's a good kid, and I think he was actually the first face she saw on her amnesia arrival; she's glad she's getting to see a bit more of his more relaxed side and his opinions. Also his boyfriend is a nice young man and she wishes them every happiness.
SHRIKE ON NEMESIS: Shrike is lowkey worried about Nem, because she gets into a lot of scrapes where Shrike would like to be able to back her up but only hears about afterward. She does feel pretty strongly that teens shouldn't be having to put their lives on the line, but she's hoping there's like, some way to help support her better.
SHRIKE ON GRIFFIN: see enormous block of text I replied to toni with above
SHRIKE ON KESTREL: Shrike... has no idea what's going on with her, although she wonders if there might be some kind of reincarnation confusion going on, there, based on a conversation they had once? But Kestrel called her "mom" immediately and now she feels compelled to make sure avante's newest good rowdygirl has a good nest to call home, even if she's laser-focused on trouble.
also fun fact: Shrike's original name was Kestrel Strikes at Twilight before she slam-dunked it into the void,

...she's also fascinated with whatever the fuck is going on at home for him whenever she sees it, because: robots? weird religion? victoriana? tell her more

she's thinks his earnestness is very charming and even though she teases him, a lot, she's enjoyed getting to experience things like ice cream and movies by his recommendation.
also thank god someone on this unit is a bare minimum of emotionally normal

she has so many big weird emotions about Kohime, because before the whole Sekhmet Thing she thought Kohime was a bit cool, even though they didn't know each other well, and then she felt terrible about the whole thing, and now there's also her having a feeling of ????similar bad parenting hat???? She just feels really strongly compelled to like... try and give Kohime something better as far as people to rely on, even if she has no idea what she's doing with it.
PALOMA ON KOHIME: Paloma relates to being the hooligan black sheep that the teacher didn't like as a kid and she generally tends to like young people who are/were the same, so she has a natural immediate approval. She thinks Kohime has a lot of potential, and both wants to be in her corner with knives out and also to give her room to really flourish.
Also she's the reason why Paloma keeps aggressively teasing Sekhmet in every game that involves kissing

PALOMA ON INTENSITY: Far be it from her to discount someone for being half her age, because when she was his age she was about as ambitious and that worked out great for her. She enjoys their little chats when she's not dunking on him, and there's a reason why she's been pitching the Good Word of Vengeance to him now and again; she thinks he'd be a real credit to team.
Also she just really does think their dreamscape chats are fun and also very funny, and thinks it's a good time when he pops by.

PALOMA ON EMET-SELCCHI: Couldn't ask for a better partner in crime. She actually... thinks it's a little nice of him to have that kind of concern for everyone on BARiTONES, as far as their emotional well-being; it just gives her hives a little bit to get asked about it so directly, since she hasn't been in a position to really talk about her own comfort or stress levels for uh. Fifteen years??? Because she's been playing three-dimensional chess against the British Empire and her own religion for that whole time.
Like, he's a shifty bastard and so is she but she does feel pretty seriously that she can rely on him and that they'd work together well. She's pretty impressed with his ability to read people, and the fact that he's picked up what she's good at very quickly she finds to be both flattering and a good quality in leadership slash evil.

SHRIKE ON HIRYUU: She doesn't know Hiryuu all that well apart from the Hellventure, which was admittedly a hell of a way to get to know someone; she thinks she's a nice person and that she has quite a bit to recommend her, though, from that experience!
PALOMA ON HIRYUU: they have also not interacted that much but Paloma, who is both very social and deeply cynical, is kind of floored by the amount of emotional energy it takes to have that many friends

she sort of worries about Sekhmet, too, and has an anxiety about whether she can give her all the support she needs; she knows Sekhmet has a tendency to run herself ragged trying to help people as a sort of compensation for how she feels inside (which is also why she occasionally sics Persephone on her and vice versa to make them like. take care of each other since they're all so bad at self-care)
but also it's been super valuable to Shrike to have another person who really understood from early-on the particular difficulty of having a part of who you are turned to bad ends, and even though they sometimes diverge on the finer points of how they want to deal with that themselves, the fact that she can talk about it at that level with Sekhmet is so important to her—as well as the fact that they have a lot of other, good things they can share, too.
PALOMA ON SEKHMET: She thinks Sekhmet is interesting, although she often disagrees on the takeaways from the philosophical discussions they have. The fact that Sekhmet is grappling with ethical issues at all, and has given thought to her place in the world makes her automatically more worth talking to than, like, 75% of Victorian high society.
She is, unfortunately, both committed to being a horrible tease because she stans one bad cat, and also very top4top, so honestly she'd be even more intrigued if Sekhmet ever tried to push back on her weird flirtation bullying.

SHRIKE ON AMARANTH: As much as sometimes she feels like she wishes Amaranth would stop going so hard with her like all the time, Amaranth's been a valued mentor as well as someone who she's actually enjoying getting to know on a personal level, now that things have come up that have caused Amaranth to struggle a bit more. She's starting to feel less like Amaranth is so far above her, and is also surprised that dynamic is... more comfortable than she expected?
Also she still has a very stupid crush on Amaranth that will probably never die.
PALOMA ON AMARANTH: WOMAN HOT also it's nice to meet a high-powered woman who's willing to do whatever it takes to take care of her own and is angry enough to want to do something about it. A woman after her own heart, 10/10, call her anytime—
no subject
Honestly in another timeline, I think it's very possible that Amaranth would be dating Shrike and a comrade to Cardigan, but as-is she has likewise increasingly come to see Shrike as a peer rather than merely a young woman not fully utilizing her ~potential~. Of course, she'd really rather Shrike NOT be seeing her experiencing this whole "doubt" emotional concept, but... well, now that it's happening, maybe it's actually better than going through this alone?
Meanwhile, Amaranth can't quite decide how to feel about Paloma: She can tell that she's somewhat doing that performative thing that Yvette does, but she interprets it as more genuine since Paloma is willing to acknowledge her own negative emotions. (The idea that this, too, could be a kind of deliberate performance, is largely not something that troubles her. She, too, is inclined to try to get what she wants by being straightforward about her emotions, so assumes that's what's going on here—to the extent that she assumes any kind of manipulation at all.) She sees Paloma as potentially dangerous due to her status as an audition—but then, she's not one to shy away from danger. Instead, she just likes to make sure she's never unarmed~.
no subject
Particularly now that Paloma has vibe-checked Amaranth, I'm curious about her take on her—not only as an individual and fellow alpha lesbian, but specifically in the way that she evaluates people as (1) BiT allies, and (2) potential Vengeance recruits.

Obviously, a positive disposition toward BARiTONES is great, and she's also interested to know that all is not well between the LiliS adults (not surprising to her, but good to have confirmation). Having a bitterness toward a lot of the rest of Imeeji also helps, because she can leverage that, and it's a good bonding thing. A lot of BARiTONES also feels that way, after all! And bonding over things you hate is clearly the best way to forge a relationship. That's how friendship works, right,
The things that are most interesting to her as part of the Vengeance PR are twofold. Firstly, there's the relationship with her myriad many-universed sons. In looking for people to try and recruit, she looks for people who have something that they want desperately, whether it's to acquire or protect or overcome. Amaranth's strength of feeling there signals that she knows she could or already has lost them, and that's notable, in Paloma's book.
The other one is the relationship with Intensity. People who have an opinion in opposition to the way Intensity runs things—and yet are still working with him—are useful to her, because she's not above trying to flip any associates of I2 that she can. That, or split it apart; after all, people can't graduate hell and get their wishes if the production ends or is disrupted! All of them seem like useful, smart people, though, so she'd prefer to see them working against Pythia, specifically. So she's not yet sure if she can leverage that, or how she'd want to, but that Intensity's associates aren't all strictly loyal is good to know.
