I almost... well, I almost convinced them to accept reparations, but I had to rely on another person for the sort of amends I wanted to make, and they refused to help. But they were willing to accept that if it had worked, so maybe there's something I can still do?

I think... if you've learned from what happened, and you've apologized and made it clear and you'd like to make amends, the rest is probably up to them, at this point. They may decide they can't forgive you, and that may be a thing you'll have to come to terms with.

Until then, I think the best you can do is prove with your actions that you're not going to hurt them again, as much as this place allows.
